A System Overview  

Your car’s air conditioner operates by utilizing high- and low-pressure sides to change the physical state of the refrigerant as it cycles through the system. Driven by the engine, the compressor increases the pressure of the refrigerant by compressing it. As the refrigerant circulates, it absorbs heat. The condenser cools the refrigerant. It’s located in front of the radiator and lets the refrigerant return to its liquid state. The evaporator’s job is to remove heat from the air in the passenger cabin. The orifice tube and expansion valve control refrigerant flow. The accumulator/receiver/drier removes moisture from the air, making it more comfortable and less damaging to the A/C system. The blower motor circulates the cooled air, allowing it to enter the passenger area.
